Stephanie Winters Winters- Reading Responses The article titled The Job Market: Is a College Degree Worth Less? brings up many important ideas when thinking about your education. It talks about how the world of education and college degrees is changing. I agree with many of the ideas that were presented in this article. Many people used to strive to obtain a bachelors degree in college, lately there are more people talking about getting a masters degree. I believe that this is a common trend in many different areas of study. I personally think that it is a good idea for people to extend their schooling and go for a masters degree. This is something that I have thought about and continue to think about. The field of education is extremely competitive. There are more and more teachers and not enough jobs. I think that be having a masters degree it shows that this teacher has taken their education to a new level and went beyond what was expected to learn more about their profession. However, many people argue that getting a masters degree will lower your chance of getting a job. This is because schools will be required to pay you more. I think that although it might be tougher to find a job if you have a masters degree, it is something that should be strongly considered. By going the extra years and obtaining a masters degree, you be better qualified in your area of study.
The article Should more people skip college? brings up many facts that most people would not think about. I disagree with the ideas presented throughout this article. I think that it is necessary for many jobs to require a bachelors degree. One of these jobs that I think it is necessary for is nursing. I think that nurses should have four years of schooling to learn all of the material needed in the work force. People should have a wide range of knowledge when working in a field like this one. This relates back to the idea about what it means to be educated. Some people think that being educated means being skilled in one area. These people may be the ones who believe that not everyone needs four years of schooling. On the other hand, there are people who believe that being educated means having a variety of knowledge about many different things. I think that people should be educated in many areas.
In the article Plan B- Skip College, the author talks about both sides of the college argument. I agree with the statement about the experiences people have in college. Students who do not go to college are missing out on a life changing experience. This experience is something that often helps people to grow and become more independent. College not only teaches you academics, but life skills as well. People learn many different life skills in college. They learn how to manage their time and take responsibility for their actions. Students learn about how to schedule classes and understand that they are required to go to class to and take responsibility for their actions. Students who do not go to college are missing out on the amazing experience of college.
